Gli Anthropic Collapse sono un duo dark wave italiano con sede a Berlino, composto da Martino Mostacci alla chitarra/voce e da Leonardo Pedron al Synth. La loro musica è un perfetto abisso in cui immergersi. Nota dopo nota, corde, syntetizzatori e drum machines riempiono il vuoto. Distorsioni vibranti e saturazioni seguono un battito incessante fino al punto di non ritorno. Pronti ad incontrarli?
Tell us a little bit about your musical background.
Diteci un po’ del vostro background musicale.
M: Over the past ten years in Berlin I have played in various projects as a guitarist and bassist. It was an interesting sound and interior journey that allowed me to meet great musicians and friends with whom I shared a lot. For about two years I started writing music just for myself without limitations and compromises. A different approach that allowed me to have an overall view and to understand what really served to evolve my sound. A sort of NEW beginning.
M: Negli ultimi dieci anni passati a Berlino ho suonato in vari progetti come chitarrista e bassista. È stato un interessante percorso sonoro ed interiore, che mi ha permesso di conoscere grandi musicisti ed amici con i quali ho condiviso moltissimo. Da circa due anni ho iniziato a scrivere musica solo per me, senza limitazioni e compromessi. Un approccio diverso che mi ha permesso di avere una visione d’insieme e di capire cosa veramente servisse ad evolvere il mio suono. Una sorta di NUOVO inizio.
L: I played drums with a few bands, synths, pedals and farfisa with others, the aspiration has always been to never compromise with someone who wasn’t in the creative core. Between 2015 and 2016 I almost totally stopped listening to music from others, in order to purify myself from as many external influences as possible and to rearrange the tastes and experiences which have consolidated me the most. After this period I started collaborating with Alberto Almas.
L: Ho suonato la batteria con qualche band, synth, pedali e farfisa con altre, l’aspirazione è sempre stata quella di non scendere mai a compromessi con qualcuno che non fosse dentro al nucleo creativo. Tra il 2015 e il 2016 ho smesso quasi totalmente di ascoltare musica di altri, al fine di purificarmi da più influenze esterne possibile e riordinare i gusti e le esperienze che mi hanno consolidato maggiormente. Dopo questo periodo ho iniziato a collaborare con Alberto Almas.
“Anthropic Collapse” is a strong and even actual concept. How does your music reflect that?
“Collasso Antropico” è un concetto forte ed attuale, in che modo riflette la vostra musica?
L: The evolution and the abyss are two fundamental sides of the same coin that the human being has always carried in his pocket. Prisoner I talks about the brain mazes of us all and the relative escape from them. Awareness is the subjective key to the next level.
L: L’evoluzione e l’abisso sono due lati fondamentali della stessa medaglia che l’essere umano porta in tasca da sempre. Prisoner I parla dei labirinti cerebrali di tutti noi e della relativa fuga da essi. La consapevolezza è la soggettiva chiave d’uscita per il livello successivo.
Is there an image or visual experience that has inspired your sound lately?
C’è un’immagine o un’esperienza visiva che ultimamente ha ispirato il vostro sound?
M: I wouldn’t say that the creative process behind Anthropic Collapse uses the image as a trigger for the creation and exploration of ideas. Rather the sound representation of certain moods and emotional patterns. A sort of ritual to expose our most intense emotions, be they positive or negative and then separate them from the pure self-referential experience.
M: Non direi che il processo creativo alle spalle di Anthropic Collapse utilizza l’immagine come trigger per la creazione e l’esplorazione di idee. Piuttosto la rappresentazione sonora di determinati stati d’animo e pattern emozionali. Una sorta di rituale per mettere a nudo le nostre più intense emozioni, siano esse positive o negative e separarle quindi dalla pura esperienza autoreferenziale.
What do you think is the power of “dark” music in a place like Berlin?
Quale pensate sia la forza della musica “dark” in un posto come Berlino?
L: Surely the meteorological aspect and the massive presence of abandoned or deteriorated industrial complexes contextualizes very specific musical genres.Berlin was destroyed and zeroed less than 80 years ago, divided and walled up less than 60 and for 30 years it has been a totally complementary garment thanks to the upward thrust that comes only when you hit the bottom.
L: Sicuramente l’aspetto meteorologico e la presenza massiva di complessi industriali abbandonati o deteriorati contestualizza molto determinati generi musicali. Berlino è stata distrutta e azzerata meno di 80 anni fa, scissa e murata da meno di 60 e da 30 calza una veste totalmente complementare grazie alla spinta verso l’alto che arriva solo toccando il fondo.
According to secret whisperings, your first EP is scheduled to be released soon. What can you tell us about it?
Secondo voci segrete, il vostro primo EP verrà lanciato presto. Cosa potete dirci al riguardo?
L: You are well informed, it is very likely that before the end of the year an EP will appear on the Prisoner wavelength. Everything is happening in a very natural way with no particular hitches and we are very happy with this. We look forward to sharing it with you all.

What is your relationship with social? You won’t be on facebook on purpose, right? Che rapporto avete con i social? Non sarete volutamente su Facebook, giusto?
L: Facebook has never really intrigued us, not even Twitter.Social networks are like a knife, the use to be made of it, however, lies with each of us.For example the superficiality in which Instagram revels, in addition to the fake appearance that allows you to transmit we do not like at all, but it in any case remains the most practical communication channel to share concerts and releases.
L: Facebook non ci ha mai intrigato molto, nemmeno Twitter. I social network sono come un coltello, l’uso di cui farne sta comunque ad ognuno di noi. Ad esempio la superficialità in cui sguazza Instagram, oltre all’alone di finta apparenza che permette di trasmettere non ci piacciono per niente, ma è ad ogni modo il canale di comunicazione più pratico per condividere concerti ed uscite.
