So M!R!M songs are “weirdo lullabies for broken hearts”, what are the emotions you want to convey?

M!R!M is the reflection of my most deep inner self. It’s my own personal mirror that I can fully trust, it’s brutally honest, painful and loving. After writing four albums and several singles I can see a constant pattern of nostalgia and melancholic vibes in the sound that I’ve developed through the years, I believe that “weirdo lullabies for broken hearts” is the perfect title to describe my music.

I can feel a relaxing 80s-like relaxation in your sound, from what originates a song like Peninsula?

Peninsula is an ode to Italy.  I have been quite homesick in the last few years and I needed to express this feeling somehow. Being able to print these emotions in the shape of a song it’s my favourite way of dealing with them.

It was during the Summer of 2021, a  typical English summer day, warm but very cloudy and humid, not quite my thing. During that time I was quite obsessed with Alexander O’Neal and his chill/electronic R&B vibes, a massive inspiration for sure. I wanted to re-create a nostalgic Italian summer sunset, the part of the day that I love and miss the most.

The foundation of the song was ready but there’s was something missing so I asked my longtime friend and collaborator Francesco Perini a.k.a Pearz to jump in, he added some classy/smooth piano layers that finally put the cherry on top of the cake and so the song was ready to go.

How did you become drawn towards making retro/synth music?

It all started in my early days of making music. C.C.C.P  and Franco Battiato were those who introduced me to 80’s drum machines and  FM Synthesis sounds. Since then I have always been very curious about this kind of music and I kept digging more and more discovering cool and weird bands from the Italo Disco/New Wave era such as Gaznevada, Righeira, Matia Bazar etc…

Let’s talk about your name, I mean Milwaukee…

When I moved to London back in 2011 I wanted to take a break from Italy in every possible ways and I didn’t want to be found on social medias so I decided to scrap off my real name and start ‘fresh’ from zero, like I was born again in a new ‘me’. The reason why I chose ‘Milwaukee’ is just for the few, not for everyone.

What about your work as sound engineer/producer in London, can you tell us about nice projects/artist you’re are collaborating?

I have been working professionally as a sound engineer for almost a decade now and I have been really privileged to work with many amazing bands from all over the world in the best London venues. Through this work I was also able to develop production skills for my music and beyond. As a result, I am also a producer and I do enjoy working with other artists, no matter the genre.

I have been working recently with my friend KOKO MOON and I’m currently working with several dark wave/synth pop artists who are abut to release some cool music soon, one of them is my homie ‘Le Brame’.

More to come soon.

What are you most proud of so far in your music career?

To be honest I am proud of everything I did, because I’ve always been doing it on my own.

Definitely being able to play my music (that has been mainly recorded and produced in my former tiny bedroom) across Europe and The United States are experiences that I will never forget and I will always be grateful for.

Outside of music, what inspires you?

Life in any shape somehow always inspires me, for better or for worse. Long walks in the nature, the sea, my friends, my family, my girlfriend, my synths and my sins. If you like my music thank them.
