TALK TO HER are an electro-wave-rock band from Italy. Their sound is dark and deep, like a gasp in the night. Home, their debut EP of four tracks, has been published in 2018. Now their first full length album “Love Will Come Again” is out.

The band is hard to categorize, which is a big part of the appeal. 

So let’s talk with them!

How do you connect the influences of the old post-punk scene with a modern sound?
Come riuscite a mettere in connessione le influenze della storica scena post-punk con un sound moderno?

We think the answer is simple: we never really felt tied to one genre rather than another; we think that the connection perceived is given by the coexistence of our personal influences in the conception of our music and consequently of our sound. We write each of our song together: playing together, each of us expresses his soul and his own background. Certainly some exquisitely 1980s sounds act as a common environment, but our attention to what is the current music scene, especially international and beyond genres, has allowed us to enrich our compositions and define our identity.

Pensiamo la risposta sia semplice: non ci siamo mai sentiti veramente legati ad un genere piuttosto che ad un altro; pensiamo infatti che la connessione che si percepisce sia data dalla coesistenza delle nostre personali influenze nella concezione della nostra musica e di conseguenza del nostro sound. Scriviamo ogni  pezzo assieme: nel suonare, ognuno di noi esprime il proprio animo e con esso il proprio background di ascolti. Di sicuro alcune sonorità squisitamente anni ‘80 fanno da ambiente comune, ma la nostra attenzione è rivolta al panorama musicale attuale, specialmente internazionale, che ci ha permesso di arricchire le nostre composizioni e definire la nostra identità.

Launching an album on Valentine’s day is so romantic! Are you guys romantic?
Lanciare un album il giorno di San Valentino è così romantico! E voi siete romantici?

Of course, absolutely! One wonderful thing is that you can be romantic in an infinite number of different ways, each with its own facet, each reflecting your soul. Soul that can be bright, or dark, or both sides coexisting. Actually, this is precisely what allows us to be romantic in our music, in every single song!

Certo che lo siamo, assolutamente sì! Una cosa stupenda dell’essere romantici è che lo si può essere in un’infinità di modi diversi, ognuno con la propria sfaccettatura, ognuno riflettendo il proprio animo. Animo che può essere luminoso, oscuro o con entrambe le parti coesistenti. In realtà è proprio questo a permetterci di essere romantici nella nostra musica ed in ogni nostro pezzo!

If you had to choose a favorite song from the new album, which one would you choose?
Se doveste scegliere una canzone preferita dal nuovo album, quale scegliereste?

Surprisingly, each of us expressed a different preference, so we cannot give an univocal answer to this question. However, this can only make us smile! Love Will Come Again certainly has its leading tracks, but it was conceived as a consistent album, in which all the songs are an essential part of it and each of us had the space to express himself at the best.

Sorprendentemente ognuno di noi ha espresso una preferenza diversa dalle altre, per cui non possiamo dare una risposta univoca a questa domanda. Ad ogni modo la cosa non può che farci sorridere! Love Will Come Again ha di certo le sue tracce di spicco ma è stato concepito come un disco coeso, in cui tutte le canzoni ne sono un tassello imprescindibile, in cui ognuno di noi ha trovato lo spazio per esprimersi al meglio.

Your name Talk To Her suggests the need to communicate with someone. What’s the best way to express emotions?
Il vostro nome Parla Con Lei suggerisce il bisogno di comunicare con qualcuno. Qual è il miglior modo di esprimere le emozioni?

There is a diatribe in the world of scotch whiskey connoisseurs: the glass of water with ice aside. Some argue that the water should be drinked alternately with the liqueur, some insert an ice cube into it, others squeeze a cube in their fist to drop a few drops of cold water into the glass. Others drink smooth scotch and ask for nothing else. We believe that the best answer is: drink it as you like it, as it gives you more satisfaction, forget about those who tell you how to enjoy your scotch.

C’è una diatriba nel mondo degli intenditori di scotch whisky: il bicchiere d’acqua con ghiaccio a parte. Alcuni sostengono che l’acqua vada sorseggiata alternativamente al liquore, alcuni vi inseriscono un cubetto di ghiaccio, altri stringono il cubetto nel pugno per far cadere nel bicchiere delle gocce d’acqua fredda; altri bevono lo scotch liscio e non chiedono altro. Pensiamo che la risposta migliore sia: bevilo come più ti piace, come più ti da soddisfazione, lascia perdere chi ti dice come gustarti il tuo scotch.

So love won’t tear us apart this time! Should we be afraid anyway?
E così l’amore non ci dividerà questa volta! Dobbiamo avere paura comunque?

Yes, because actually with the message Love Will Come Again we implicitly mean that love in some way, at some time, has left us, leaving us scars. Emphasizing this concept:

the return of love always involves a previous loss, in a path that can be cyclical, in a sort of salvation that can however dramatically turn into a curse.

Si, perché in realtà con il messaggio LWCA implicitamente intendiamo che l’amore in qualche modo, in qualche periodo, ci abbia lasciato, lasciandoci cicatrici. Enfatizzando al massimo il concetto:

il ritorno dell’amore comporta sempre una perdita precedente, in un percorso che può rivelarsi ciclico, in una sorta di salvezza che può però trasformarsi drammaticamente in maledizione.
